Advantages And Disadvantages Of Forged Steel Gate Valves

The so-called forged steel gate valve, as the name implies, refers to a gate valve made of forging materials. Forging materials include A105, F11, F5, 304, 304L, 316, 316L, etc.

Forged steel gate valves are used to cut off or connect the medium in the pipeline. Different materials are selected, which can be used for water, steam, oil, nitric acid, acetic acid, oxidizing medium, urea and other media. It is widely used in oil pipelines.

Forged steel gate valves are mostly Dalian-type reduced-diameter designs. Compared with cast steel gate valves of the same caliber, the flow rate is slightly smaller, but the pressure and temperature range they withstand are higher than cast steel valves, and the sealing performance is much better than cast steel gate valves. The service life is longer, and the medium flow direction is not restricted like other gate valves.

When maintaining forged steel valves, attention should also be paid to the problem of water ingress in the electric head and its transmission mechanism. Especially rainwater infiltrating in the rainy season. One is to rust the transmission mechanism or transmission sleeve, and the other is freezing in winter. The torque is too large when the electric valve is operated, and the transmission parts are damaged, which will cause the motor to be unloaded or the over-torque protection to trip and cannot realize electric operation. The transmission parts are damaged and manual operation cannot be performed. After the over-torque protection is activated, manual operation cannot be switched on and off. If forced operation is performed, the internal alloy parts will be damaged.

Domestic forged steel gate valves have developed to a certain level. Although there is still a certain gap compared with foreign valve casting technology, this gap is slowly narrowing. The quality of domestic forged steel gate valves is getting better and better, and has been unanimously affirmed by users. I believe that in the future development process, forged steel gate valves will become more and more perfect and have more and more complete functions.

1. Advantages of Forged Steel Gate Valve

1. Small fluid resistance.

2. Small external force required for opening and closing.

3. The flow direction of the medium is not restricted.

4. When fully open, the sealing surface is less eroded by the working medium than the stop valve.

5. The body shape is relatively simple and the casting process is better.

2. Disadvantages of forged steel gate valves

1. The overall dimensions and opening height are large. The space required for installation is large.

2. During the opening and closing process, there is relative friction between the sealing surfaces, which can easily cause scratches.

3. Forged steel gate valves generally have two sealing surfaces, which adds some difficulties to processing, grinding and maintenance.

3. Scope of application of forged steel gate valves

Forged steel gate valves are suitable for small-diameter pipelines with Class 150 to 2500 and working temperatures of -29 to 425℃ (carbon steel) or -29 to 500℃ (stainless steel). They are used to cut off or connect the medium in the pipeline. They are widely used in oil pipelines.
